Eric and I got free day passes to Deer Valley to go skiing. Since they were only good for the month of January, we went on last Thursday. Little did we know that while we would be up there, the Freestlye World Cup moguls would be going on. When we got there we headed straight for the back as the front of the mountain was playing host to moguls and freestyle aerials.
It was an awesome day, beautiful and sunny and freezing cold. Although I was wearing goggles and a helmet, I still felt like I was having a brain freeze each run I made zipping down the mountain. Midday we both got hungry and I was craving Deer Valley's world famous turkey chili. It is the best chili that I have ever had in my whole life, hands down! Sorry Mom. After my turkey chili and Eric's sandwich, we headed back up the mountain. Skiing the day away we decided that we would head for the front and watch the moguls. By the time we got there, they were just finishing up with days competition. We did however get there in time to see the last few racers.
The guy in this short clip ended up being the last racer and also the winner. His name is Guilbaut Colas and he is from France.
After the moguls finished up, we were able to watch the freestlye aerial warmups. Here are a few of the competitors practicing, and it's a good thing it was only practice!
I'm glad that we got to go skiing, it was a lot of fun. Even better because it was free! I enjoyed being up there while Freestyle World Cup was going on too. Brings back the good old days of the 2002 Olympics. I sure am ready for spring though. With the warm weather comes downhill biking and the races that are also held at Deer Valley. We'll be there for those too!!
