Christmas Cactus

I've always loved plants. I guess I take after my mother in that sense. Thanks Mom! For the past 4 years, we have not been able to have any plants survive in our basement apartment. There's just not enough light for them to survive. Well, that has all changed... so far. It's only been a week and a half since Eric bought my Christmas Cactus. I'm very excited about this plant though. I believe that I can keep it alive. My apartment has the perfect conditions for this cute little cactus. It needs very little water (it is a cactus, duh) and it requires 12 hours of darkness a night! Perfect!! When Eric gave it to me it had little white buds all over it. Being the nerd that I am, I have been faithfully watching these little buds grow and start to bloom and open up. I wake up in the morning and go first thing to the window that I keep the cactus in and open up the blinds. I then lovingly reassure it, letting it know that I will do my best to take care of it. I don't really, but I do coax it to keep blooming!
This is the first bloom that started opening up a few days after Eric bought it.

This is the very next day! The buds are all white, but as soon as they start to open up, they turn a light pink. They are soooooo pretty!

More and more buds are starting to open up. There's a total of six that are now open. I love it! It's very beautiful and it'll last longer than a bouquet of flowers. It brings me some joy in my little basement apartment!
